Cinematic Happenings

A few nights ago I watched Lucille Ball in The Fuller Brush Girl. She plays a door to door cosmetics saleswoman who stumbles upon a murder. It was ok, not great, got too screwball comedy-like towards the end. Anyhow, the fashions were fantastic! Of course my photos don't show any of them. I was having trouble getting the movie to pause so I could take the pictures.

Below, on the right, is basically what I wish I could look like on a daily basis. Love those star pins on the jacket. Love those sunglasses!!
I  also watched BEACH BLANKET BINGO, which I have decided is the best movie ever made. Not much of a plot, just killer surf guitar bands and light 60s pop while Frankie and Annette run around on the beach and wear super keen outfits. I want to live in this movie. Plus one of the guys wears an Ed Big Daddy Roth Rat Fink hat, so the film gets bonus points for obscure hot rod references.

The gang has a killer beach house. No one appears to have a job however so I dont know who is affording said killer beach house.
The gals sleep in an upstairs loft at the beach house.  No hanky panky allowed.
Everyone hangs out at this super groovy beach bar  with awesome patio lights. Plus everyone is dressed up. I would hang out here every nite if I could.
The Hondells play surf guitar while Linds Evans (who knew?) sings a great pop tune. I love bands that wear uniforms.
 I am loving Annette's dress.

Call me Clifton!

This past weekend The Saint and I went to the Hot Rod Hoedown and Rockabilly Rumble, which is exactly what it sounds like. We saw hot rods, customs, classics, and a few rockabilly bands. I passed out copies of Bachelor Pad Magazine and was careful to only hand them to people who looked (a) like they would understand the magazine and (b) would not punch me in the face.
I also shopped! I bought an interesting mechanic's shirt that has been screen printed on the back. The name tag on the shirt is "Clifton." I washed it and once I iron it I will wear it to tonite's estate auction.

I also bought a tweedy wool cape-style 1950s coat, very Barbara Billingsley. No sleeves, just slits for your arms. Dig the detail around the buttons. As soon as I find a matching deerstalker cap I will be good to go, haha.

I also got this stunning black evening coat from the Paris shop in Wilkes Barre Pa. The Saint is from Wilkes Barre and I am from Scranton so I was psyched to find this. It is in excellent condition and the buttons have black rhinestones on them. The fabric is a soft twill and the coats is very dressy. My mom said the Paris shop was very expensive.  My poor photography does not bring out the garment's awesomeness. If  I am ever invited to attend an opera in a Rolls Royce I will be ready.

The optical illusions dress

This is my newest find, a vintage Hawaiian ankle-length cotton dress.Made in Hawaii by Hilo Hattie. It is in excellent condition, like new. I call it the optical illusions dress because it makes me look thin.It has a flattering hourglass shape to it when its on.  IT MAKES ME LOOK THIN! I cannot stop singing its praises since this is no small feat. Did I mention it makes me look thin? Plus, hold onto your hats, it was only $5. Yes, $5. And it makes me look thin!! An anvil should drop out of the sky and onto my head any minute now.....
Plus I am undergoing a Joan Crawford style initiative to replace all of my hangars with old wooden ones or pretty padded ones. I pick these up at the estate auction whenever I can outbid someone on a batch of them.

New Bijoux

Although August has been filled with rain and flea markets are being cancelled left right and center, I did manage to score some great vintage jewelry at reasonable prices. Below are 2 sweater clips, a necklace and a green rhinestone bracelet. My poor photography does not do these justice.
Below is the greatest bracelet I have ever seen, along with 2 necklaces.
Clip on earrings and a celluloid scottie pin, which I will wear with a vintage plaid jacket.
More bracelets and a groovy cocktail ring that will awe and amaze all who see me quaff a martini.
